Sheila's Blog (or Glog - Gut Log)

Hello Everyone,

Time is flying by and here we are with our big holidays coming up! I want to say that I am impressed with the progress that so many of my clients are making in moving forward on their intestinal and overall health. The fall has seen a continued number of people performing intestinal, liver, gall bladder and Candida cleanses. I have also noticed that more overweight and obese people are taking back their lives, losing the necessary weight and cleansing their systems.

For some, the holidays represent a sugar binge, a time to go out of control with food, a fearful feeling that one will be drawn back into old, destructive eating and drinking patterns. You might want to take some inner time with yourself to set your holidays goals right now. Refined sugar seems to be at the core of weight gain, illness, depression and of course, excessive gas, bloat and Candida. Thats for starts.

One way to short circuit old patterns is to take care of yourself in loving and nurturing ways. We plan to be around over the holidays to be with you and work with you. And, guess what, we are offering the special economic colonic throughout the holiday season.

Due to big demand, the Economic Colonic is back!

Our big value, the economic colonic, is priced at $49.95 from the day you receive this newsletter until January 9, 2010. Such a deal! People have really taken advantage of this to purchase series in advance, to use with various cleanses, diet changes, fasts, and to pass the great news on to friends. The key is to mention the words, economic colonic and youve got a deal. And, we will be happy!

Retreats at My Home

I continue to offer my second floor private guest bedroom and bath to one or two people who would like to retreat, cleanse, heal or unplug in general for a short period. I can teach the raw food or Specific Carbohydrate Diet for those that are interested. I can guide you through a GI or liver cleanse and provide colon hydrotherapy and massage.

I had another thought about the retreats. We are really designed to move. Exercise is always included in steps to self-care. Some of you might like to become more active in the time you spend in Tucson. Your stay can include hiking, kayaking, swimming, tennis, cycling and/or walking. I can guide you or point you in the right direction. All this, while eating well, hydrating and having some quiet time. Think about it.

Please be in touch if you are interested.

Office Space for Rent

I have a beautifully appointed, spacious room for rent for the right practitioner. I prefer someone with an active practice. We are centrally located with kitchen, foyer, office and library facilities. Chi Nei Tsang would be a good fit. I would love to hear from the right person. Call or email Sheila at 520-325-9686 or [email protected].

What Have I Been Up To? Chi Nei Tsang and Skillfully Aware!

Tucson has a wonderful healing and educational community and I have been enjoying participating in some of the wonderful offerings that abound. On November 6-8, 2009, I received 21 CEs in Chi Nei Tsang taught by Caryn Diel of the White Cloud Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She taught at Zen Tribe Wellness www.zentribewellness.com here in Tucson and it made the drive 12 minutes rather than 9 hours, one- way. Not bad for energy saving!

So, what is Chi Nei Tsang? According to Caryn,

Chi Nei Tsang is Taoist abdominal massage designed to provide deep healing by working directly on internal dysfunctions and energy blocks. Literally meaning, organ chi transformation or changing the energy in the viscera, Chi Nei Tsang promotes physical, mental and emotional well being...

CNT works mainly on the abdomen, training the organs to work more efficiently...CNT detoxifies and relieves the body of excess stagnation. It improves elimination and stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory system...

CNT allows the process of emotional life to unfold and clarify. All of our non-processed emotional life is stored in our digestive system waiting to be addressed. Poor emotional digestion is one of the main reasons for ill health.

Well, I guess that describes me in a nutshell. I would like to go for my certification and will need to do 50 case studies, read, 50 sessions on clients. If you are interested in being one on my case studies for certification, please call or email and we can arrange for a session. It will be about an hour and will be by donation.

The emotional component of the CNT is a segue into another excellent seminar I attended called www.skillfullyaware.com. I spent 6 Thursday evenings, from 6-9 PM, with Mark Pirtle PhD learning how to work with healing my anxiety. Easier said than done. Heres some info from his site:

What is Skillfully Aware?

Skillfully Aware
TM is a fascinating blend of health science and meditation techniques. It is designed for anyone suffering from a stress-related problem, be it depression, anxiety, insomnia, addiction, trauma, pain, or an eating disorder. Skillfully Aware views these stress-related illnesses as self-generating and self-perpetuating disturbances of thought. For this reason alone, healing from one of these stress-related illnesses is difficult if not impossible without some sort of help.

Two of the guiding principles behind the development of the Skillfully Aware program are::

  • first, the more people know about their condition, the better they are able to manage it, and the better their final outcome
  • second, when people connect with their heart and purpose in life, change is made easier.

I found both of the seminars to be very nurturing and insightful not to mention very healing. Both seminars are held in beautiful and peaceful private spaces and that added to the nurturing quality. I encourage all of you to take care of yourself in every way possible especially over the holidays. It can be a time of great joy and renewal.

Rules to Eat
By Michael Pollan

My brother, Mike, sent along another great link from the NY Times by Michael Pollan. He is a noted expert and author on current food practices.

The Omnivores Dilemma is a well-known book of his. Youll have fun reading and suggesting eating rules.

Intestinal Characteristics and Lifestyle Related Diseases
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=han3AfjevOcc

A massage therapist from northern Arizona wrote me recently and told me about a Dr Shinya that he was studying. He had read a book by Shinya and found his video on YouTube. Apparently, Dr Shinya invented the process of colonoscopy. He also is a proponent of a good diet and clean water. Check out this extraordinary journey through a few large intestines with before and after. If this is not motivational, I dont know what is. I found a few related videos near this one, too. Some related to worms that were caught on video in the gut. This will be an eye-opener.

Have a very happy holiday season. Stay in touch. Let us know how we can best serve you. We hope to hold some raw food classes in the New Year. We had fun with the last one.

Lots of Love,
Sheila Shea
