Intro to Detoxification 101A

Detoxification is always going on in our bodies in balance with building: the catabolic or breaking down of substances and the anabolic the building of the body. That is the nature of our metabolism. We can cooperate with nature and our natural detoxification through fasting, resting and movement. We can also take substances supplements to enhance our detoxification.

  • process of removing toxic substances or qualities
  • metabolic process by which toxins are changed into less toxic or more readily excretable substances
  • period of withdrawal after long-term use of an addictive substance such as processed food, sugar and seed oils.

Our metabolism can produce harmful substances which is made less toxic through internal molecular processes in cells and tissues.
Most of you are detoxing from processed food ingredients and pharmaceuticals. Similar to withdrawal from drugs, people experience withdrawal from processed food! Detoxification also includes reducing or eliminating household and personal use chemicals.

In our current environment and for too many years, the public or you have ingested voluminous industrial chemicals in the process of eating processed foods, using household and personal care products made from chemicals, and cosmetics for an example.

Too Many Feedings and What Is Autophagy?

Too many feedings
The encouragement of eating ‘small meals’ like 5-6 feedings during waking hours has reduced the body’s ability to detoxify. One has to stop eating long enough to allow the eliminatory, recycling, and restoring cycles of detoxification to occur. We call this autophagy. The 5-6 daily feedings is a cover up for hypoglycemia and unhealthy fluctuating levels of insulin and glucose that processed foods create.

Autophagy is an evolutionary self-preservation mechanism through which the body can remove the dysfunctional cells and recycle parts of them toward cellular repair and cleaning, according to board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Luiza Petre. The purpose of autophagy is to remove debris and self-regulate back to optimal smooth function.

Autophagy is the body’s natural way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells.
“It is recycling and cleaning at the same time, just like hitting a reset button to your body. Plus, it promotes survival and adaptation as a response to various stressors and toxins accumulated in our cells,” she adds.

What triggers autophagy?

  • intermittent fasting and ketogenic diets
  • fasting is most effective way to trigger autophagy (Petre)
  • low insulin and high glucagon level
  • low glucose wakes up survival repairing mode
  • exercise. According to one animal study physical exercise may induce autophagy in organs that are part of metabolic regulation processes that can include muscle, liver, pancreas, and adipose tissue.

Autophagy relates to circadian rhythm. We have natural rhythms in nature: light and dark, rest and movement, nutrition and fasting. Part of successful autophagy implies that one is following natural law of fasting and resting and sunlight daily in accordance with circadian pattern.

Detox means that we have internal and natural methods of cleansing and rebuilding ourselves endogenously. Detox means that we can enhance our detox through external methods such as colon hydrotherapy, herbal programs, fasting, and movement. Fasting is our natural state. In following natural principles we move toward our natural state. We are not eating all the time!

Detox allows us to live more in natural circadian cycles, removing interferences and restoring and rebuilding ourselves. We become part of the cycles of nature.

Colon Hydrotherapy Frequency during a Detox

The number or frequency of colonics is individual and can be combined with enema or laxative use at home. Major detoxification or cleansing programs require daily elimination using laxatives, enemas and colonics. Classic programs are: 3 colonics one at beginning, middle and end of 7-day cleanse; 5 colonics for a 2-week cleanse; 8 colonics for a 28-day cleanse.

Most cleanses are designed with enough laxative to help you eliminate every day. You have to be able to eliminate first to initiate a bowel cleanse although many of you are taking on a cleanse to help you eliminate. For those that eliminate well, it’s easier. However, the majority of people are stuffed up and with sluggish bowel muscles. The 2018 bowel is more like a sack than a muscle. One goal of a bowel detox and colon hydrotherapy is to help restore peristalsis, the natural muscle motion of your gut.

Detoxification Programs and Protocols

Would you like guidance on choosing a detoxification program, or your first or additional cleanses?

The detox is composed of a number of elements and you want it to be fun and successful.

Detoxification is part of a balanced program to heal oneself and maintain good health. While people receive colon hydrotherapy, they have the option of going deeper. Going deeper is organ cleansing, heavy metal detox, parasite cleansing and industrial chemical chelation.

Other components of detoxification are autophagy and fasting. I recently read Siim Land’s book Metabolic Autophagy. Autophagy is the time to repair, regenerate and recycle the remnants of internal bodily operations that are byproducts of daily operation. Fasting is part of autophagy. The Guide to Fasting by Jason Fung MD and Jimmy Moore is an excellent primer on fasting.

what to consume while fasting

A major guideline is to create a window in which you do not eat, say from 7pm in the evening to 7am in the morning. That’s a 12-hour window. Some experts feel the goal is the 16-hour window. Needless to say, the idea is to give your gut and body a break so that it may repair and regenerate.

The plant-based diets are considered cleansing; the animal-based diets are considered building. Some individuals choose the raw food and juices, more fruits and vegetables, some nuts and seeds, and cold-pressed olive oil during their detox program or for a period of time, This plant-based approach is part of their cleansing or detox; it has that result.

An animal-base diet may also be used in detoxifcation. Meat stocks and bone broths can be base of fluids.
